Checkers and Little Checkers
I was eyeballing a couple of skeins of silk yarn that I had bought on a whim a couple of years ago in NYC; and thought that it would be perfect for some knit bags. Inspired by a Clinique bag that I use for my socks in progress, I designed the shape for the Checkers bag. After deciding on the shape, I became entranced with Checkerboard Mesh and decided that it would make a perfect lacy design for a bag – airy, but still sturdy. Little Checkers was originally my swatch that I decided to modify as a cute purse for a little girl; however, because of the adult fabric this purse could also be used as a prom bag or a bridal bag.

The purse can be knit with any summer yarn – cotton, linen, or silk. It is sturdy and pretty. I have left the top for you to finish with your own design. For Little Checkers I happened to have a “dumbbell” button that fit through holes on each side. However, for Checkers I left the top open. The options are endless and the perfect way to personalize your bag.
